Founder

Jacqueline A. Burnes, EdD works to prevent the onset of non-infectious diseases through the development and management of cardiac education programs at both the community and individual client levels. Dr. Burnes employs scientific methodologies and evidence-based practices to advance research efforts focusing on the prevention of coronary artery disease and associated risk factors.  Specifically, projects under the directive of Dr. Burnes serve as an expansion of her dissertation research entitled, Multifactorial Prevention Strategies to Reduce the Onset of Coronary Artery Disease. Employing translational research methodologies Dr. Burnes works to determine solutions to reduce metabolic dysfunctions characterized by hypertension, insulin resistance, impaired glucose tolerance, dyslipidemia, and central adiposity.  Patients diagnosed with cardiometabolic diseases are two times more likely to die from coronary heart disease and three times more likely to have a heart attack or stroke than those who do not have the syndrome.

Translational research, a critical component of doctoral programs involves the application of knowledge from clinical trials to techniques and tools that address critical medical needs. Understanding the need for solid doctoral curricula designed to drive improved patient outcomes, Dr. Burnes served as a Program Panelist at the Fischler School of Education and Human Services at Nova Southeastern University. Dr. Burnes analyzed program curricula, content, delivery, materials, and professional perspectives in this role.

Prior to becoming President of Burnes Health, Dr. Burnes serviced the community in varied capacities. At the recommendation of the Permanent Mission of Jamaica to the United Nations, Dr.  Burnes met with the Honorable Herman G. Lamont, Consul General of Jamaica to explore educational strategies designed to mitigate the onset of specific non-infectious diseases. Research dictates chronic diseases are preventable when educational and behavioral programs are implemented. Dr. Burnes is dedicated to preventing the onset of coronary artery disease and continuously works to bridge the gap between the medical field and underserved communities. Previously held positions as  a Family Specialist and Court Appointed Advocate with the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of  Florida  have equipped Dr. Burnes with invaluable methodologies needed to best service a specific demographic. Dr. Burnes graduated from The Bronx High School of Science in New York. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Doctorate in Health Education, Research Focus: Health Promotion and Disease Prevention. Dr. Burnes's interests include: preventive cardiology, cardiopulmonary rehabilitation and prehabilitation. To best serve patients with the following diagnoses:  stable angina, heart attack, heart failure, coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair or replacement, heart or lung transplant, angioplasty with or without stent, peripheral artery disease, Dr. Burnes is currently pursuing a Master of Arts degree in Physiology in the Biobehavioral Sciences Department at Columbia University.

What's New: A Look Ahead At 2026

Current Projects: 2023-2026

Rehabilitation

Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Rehabilitation Programs are medically supervised programs designed to improve cardiovascular and pulmonary health. Dr. Jacqueline A. Burnes is engaged in post-doc work in the Biobehavioral Sciences Department at Columbia University and is currently working toward completing her cardiac, pulmonary, and bariatric clinical requirements to sit for the ACSM Clinical Physiologist exam. Her interests include: preventive cardiology, rehabilitation, and prehabilitation care. In 2025 Burnes Health (Phase II Outpatient) will start welcoming patients with the following diagnoses: stable angina, heart attack, heart failure, coronary artery bypass grafting, heart valve repair or replacement, heart or lung transplant, angioplasty with or without stent, peripheral artery disease. The treatment and management of specific diagnoses may include non-invasive cardiovascular/pulmonary diagnostic testing (CPET-cardiopulmonary stress test, cardiac stress test, pharmacologic stress test). Tests results will help clinicians determine the severity of the patient’s diseased state, quantify results to best gauge capacity for exertion, and prescribe specific exercises to strengthen and recondition the heart and lungs.

Preoperative Testing

Should a patient require surgery, CPET is an effective preoperative risk stratification tool used to predict postoperative mortality and morbidity. Clinical physiologists specialize in these types of cardiovascular and pulmonary investigations. It is also recommended patients awaiting elective surgery enroll in our preventive health program to reduce their A1C, LDL, TC,CRP, BG,SBP, and DBP. Our program provides patients with necessary tools needed to tackle risk factors associated with post-surgical complications and improve pre and post-surgery outcomes.

Preventive Health

Our Senior Allied Health Professionals all hold terminal degrees in their respective field of study, EdD, PhD. The preventive health program aims to deter the onset of CAD by aggressively attacking known risk factors which include : hypertension, obesity, type 2 diabetes. Each healthcare professional will work closely with the patient to provide a review of their diagnosis, help patients understand the pathophysiology of their  disease and work to provide evidence-based solutions designed to reduce  metabolic dysfunctions. Our clinicians closely monitor specific biomarkers considered risk factors for CAD throughout the program : SBP,DBP, BMI, BG, A1C, CRP. Lab results are provided to patient’s physician to determine appropriate current and future therapeutics and interventions.
